“MACRO FLOWER PHOTOGRAPHY GADGET”

Here’s a really handy and effective gadget for doing macro flower photography.

Inevitably there is almost always wind, especially when you want to take some macro flower shots. This gadget does just the trick! It blocks off the wind like a charm and it also provides a great backdrop.

This is a list of goodies that you’re going to need:
• An old (used) 20lt plastic paint bucket
• Stanley knife
• Wood or paper glue
• Black paper/cardboard or sheet of aluminium foil

Step 1:
Using a Stanley knife, make two slits down either side of the bucket, from the rim down to the base.

Step 2:
Cut along the edge of the base between the two slits, leaving the base and one half of the bucket in tact.

Step 3:
Paste a sheet of paper/cardboard/aluminium foil to the inner wall of the bucket.

This is how it works;
1. Place the bucket upside down behind the flower that you want to photograph thereby blocking the wind.
2. The rear half-wall of the bucket cuts off the wind very effectively and provides an excellent back-drop. Instead of using a black background, you can also use coloured sheets of paper for amazing effects.
3. The base also cuts out any unwanted sunlight glaring into the lens.
4. If the wind is really howling, simply place a stone on top of the base to keep it steady.
